and write a 400-500 word scene analysis. In a nutshell, the purpose of a scene analysis is to interpret the scene's meaning and effect within the wider context of the film. You will need to refrain from making personal, subjective evaluations and try to be as objective as possible. You are not simply describing what is happening, but making detailed observations of such things as lighting, sound, camera movement, editing, performance, dialogue, etc. to construct an argument that tells the reader why the scene is important and how it pulls off its effect.
About the blog assignment: Each blog is worth 10% of your final grade. They are meant to exercise your critical reading and writing skills and can also work together to form a potential rough draft of your final essay. As you write them, try to think about how each one can relate to the other and be worked into an overall essay argument. Your blog entry must be posted by 6pm Sept. 18th. If you experience any technical difficulty, you must email the text to your T.A., Nicole Nicole.Gartner@stonybrook.edu by 6pm Sept. 18th, one hour before the screening for that evening. Late assignments will not be accepted.
